Full official description
Organizing Europe Day concert in Narva, 9 May 2026 The EC Rep in Tallinn celebrates Europe Day in two cities in Estonia – Narva and Tallinn. Narva is the border city adjacent to Russia, located in the Ida-Viru county – the just transition area in Estonia, with a mainly Russian-speaking population who still celebrate 9 May as Soviet/Russian victory day. To shift this narrative, the EC Representation, in cooperation with partners (such as the Government Office, the Ministry of Culture, the Integration Foundation, the Europe Direct Center in Narva, Narva Museum, the University of Tartu’s Narva College, and other local institutions), has for the past two years provided a solid and credible alternative: a big public concert on 9 May with A-list performers specially loved by local people in Ida-Viru region. The aim is to strengthen the narrative of peace over victory by placing European values and voices at the heart of the 9 May public sphere. The concert (and its’ side events) has been a huge success with at least the same amount of people attending the Europe Day celebrations than those visiting the propaganda events on the other side of the river banks in Narva. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to continue with the started tradition and consolidate even further the understanding of Europe Day and the celebration of peace in Narva. Europe Day celebrations help to deliver our common European message: Europe starts in Narva, and Europe Day belongs to all of us, regardless of background. As such, in order to celebrate Europe Day on 9 May 2025, the EC Rep in Estonia is planning to organize a public concert in Narva, Estonia.
